Shocking Recording Captures Instant Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
A ranking policeman that leaped to the aid of a partner who was ambushed by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he held a blade to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver subsequent to a road collision in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman attacked," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video released by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.
He struck the policeman who stumbled and fell to the street, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide help on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his throat and further injuries to his arms and torso, while Sgt Foster experienced knife wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his colleague's hemorrhaging before medical personnel reached the scene.
The new award arrives after the three officers were granted internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area union branch in early 2024.
They additionally received a North West Valor Recognition in summer 2024.
"The efforts of all three officers eventually rescued one another and meant no members of the public endured any wounds."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, as stated by authorities.
