Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs to Miss Concert Series for Medical Care
The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has revealed he will be absent from a portion of his group’s comeback concerts as he receives treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Concerts He Will Miss
Arthurs, 60, a founding member of the group, announced he will not be performing at the upcoming shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.
The show in Seoul is scheduled for 21 October, with subsequent dates in Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
Statement on His Condition
In a online statement, he disclosed that he was found to have prostate cancer earlier this year and is reacting positively to therapy.
“Early this year I was found to have prostate cancer. The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which enabled me to participate in this incredible tour.
“Now, I am having to take a scheduled pause for the next phase of my treatment, so I’ll be missing the concerts in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m very disappointed to be missing these shows but I’m feeling good and will be returning ready to go in time for the South American leg.”
Earlier Cancer Diagnosis
This is not his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs revealed he had been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer diagnosis.
At that time, he wrote: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be pausing from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s treatable and I will be beginning a treatment plan soon.”
Musical Journey
Arthurs played in the band The Rain with Liam Gallagher in the start of the 90s before they brought in the singer’s brother, Noel, who subsequently demanded they adopt a new name.
He recorded three records with the group, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before leaving in 1999 during the recording of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has frequently played on stage with Liam during his individual projects, most recently at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021.
He also established the group his own band and served as a broadcast presenter after his period in the group.
