Safety warnings are in effect as the severe weather system travels over the United Kingdom, bringing torrential downpours and winds of up to 100 miles per hour in vulnerable regions.

An Amber weather alert, stating projectile objects could threaten lives to safety, has been activated for extensive areas of the northern territory and the north of Scotland.

In the Scottish city, a derelict building fell due to high winds, while powerful 102mph winds were recorded on the island of Tiree, off the coast of western Scotland.

Power cuts have been noted in the Scottish Highlands and the northern region following travel suspensions and the shutdown of many schools.

Approximately 50,000 buildings have been deprived of electricity, according to utility companies.

All train lines in the region have been suspended, while train operators stated that all services out of Glasgow Central have been suspended until at least Saturday afternoon.

Railway teams said they were clearing away downed timber on tracks across the nation.

In Aberdeenshire, about a dozen passengers were trapped on a locomotive that collided with timber on the line.

The 17.43 service from Inverurie to the city was subject to cautionary measures put in place ahead of the tempest. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

A number of flights and boat routes have been cancelled, while some vehicle crossings are either closed or have bans on tall trucks.

In the city center, part of the street area was closed when a vacant structure collapsed at about 18:00 on Friday.

A wider yellow warning for winds up to 60 miles per hour - and 70mph in exposed areas - applies to all of the country and reaches the north of England and parts of the Welsh region until Saturday night.

Travel Chaos

  • All services from Glasgow Central have been stopped
  • Additional lines may also be disrupted and reduced speeds will be in force from the evening.
  • Transport at the mountain pass in the region has been redirected onto the alternative route. Transport officials said they were monitoring conditions.
  • Hold-ups and cancellations are anticipated on boat services along the western shoreline. Passengers have been asked to check for updates.
  • Various maritime journeys between the port and Northern Ireland have been suspended since noon.
  • The major crossing has closed to all traffic, while additional spans may have restrictions on tall transports.

A number of ferry crossings between Cairnryan, in the region, and Northern Ireland were suspended from midday.

Commuters are advised to consult ferry operators for new developments, with truck operators urged to contact port authorities for further details.

Government representatives stated: "We advise people planning to travel on rail, sea and air transport to check with companies to determine if their journey is disrupted."

"Vehicle users will face hazardous travel environments, so it's essential people plan ahead if they need to journey to see if their route is impacted by the weather."

Event Postponements

Power companies said text messages had been dispatched to more than 180,000 of their elderly or disabled users, offering support and information in the event they suffer electricity failures.

The sports match between the clubs, which had been due to take place on the end of the week, was postponed due to the severe weather.

The junior and mini running events in the city on the weekend have been called off due to the weather warning.

Event planners said the powerful gusts and rain would present a hazard of projectiles for the events, which also contained a toddler dash.
