Harvard ex-president Summers Resigns from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership
One-time economic leader the Harvard professor is leaving the governing body at the ChatGPT creator, just days after a series of digital correspondence between him and notorious criminal the disgraced billionaire became widely known.
The economist remarked in an announcement that he was "appreciative for the privilege to have contributed, enthusiastic about the potential of the organization, and eagerly await observing their advancement".
The prominent academic, who once headed the prestigious university, stated on Monday that he would be withdrawing from public commitments due to his association with Epstein.
Email Communications
The freshly disclosed communications revealed that Summers exchanged messages with Epstein until the 24 hours preceding his 2019 arrest for accused human trafficking of underage individuals.
In a separate statement, the artificial intelligence company expressed it respected Summers' choice to step down.
"We appreciate his many contributions and the perspective he brought to the governing body," the company remarked.
Congressional Action
This development follows after the entire Congress of the US legislature agreed on Tuesday to endorse a bill that would mandate the federal prosecutors to disclose its files on Jeffrey Epstein.
The measure will then move to the office of President Trump for approval. He has stated he plans to endorse the measure, after changing his view on the matter following pushback from his base.

A collection of Epstein-connected emails disclosed by the legislative panel recently referenced multiple prominent individuals in the financier's former circle, without implying any illegal behavior by those individuals.

After the emails were made available with the wider community, Summers said he accepted "complete accountability for my poor judgment to persist in interacting with the financier".

Following the economist's statement on Monday, the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in the capital where he was a researcher, confirmed that Summers was not associated with the group.
